The IT Request

This is an email that I received from our web guy this week. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. Including Centralized Government IT Services. They are evil. Welcome to my world which is fraught with red tape.

---

WebGuy: Can you please do X for me?

CentralizedGovernmentITServices: Fill out the following forms

WebGuy: Ok. Here you go. Now can you do it?

CGITS: Provide a business case.

WebGuy: The [insert the office of the most important person in government, rhymes with 'veneer' 'dream year'] wants it.

CGITS: Business case accepted, please wait.

WebGuy: [1 day goes by]

CGITS: We're sorry, your order for Y has been rejected.

WebGuy: But I ordered X, not Y.

CGITS: Please wait.

WebGuy: [Another day goes by]

CGITS: We're sorry, we are not authorized to do X.

WebGuy: Okay, I'll get a vendor to do it instead.

Vendor: No problem. Done. Took 60 seconds.

WebGuy: Thank you vendor. Hey CGITS, see that?

CGITS: We have re-reviewed your request and ... will work on it.

WebGuy: Good for you, though I've already done it, see previous email.

CGITS: There was a misunderstanding, we apologize.

WebGuy: That's okay, I'm past it.

CGITS: Your request has been assigned for processing.

WebGuy: That's great, but... it's okay... it's over now...

CGITS: We have identified your [insert name of important website] website is not being used, can we delete it?

WebGuy: Huh!?? NO!!!!!! Leave that alone!

CGITS: How else can we help you?

WebGuy: (wondering if I should really answer that)

Now you can understand why technology and government don't mix. Sigh.
