The Memorial for Cecilia
As I was leaving my house this afternoon, I had my TV tuned to the local news without the audio on. The headline had flashed before me: "CECILIA FOUND". I was excited and happy, but had to rush outside since I was already late for a meet. I was relieved for they had found the missing little girl!
I jumped into my car, started driving, and quickly flicked my car radio to the local news. My hopes were immediately dashed when I heard the radio announcer say "... her remains were found..." I had to stop my car and pull over to cry.
The entire city of Toronto, as I'm sure the rest of the nation, mourns the death of Cecilia Zhang, the little 9-year-old girl who went missing over 5 months ago. She would have celebrated her 10th birthday on Tuesday.
This is a reminder of just how fragile and precious life is. Today, I will keep my loved ones close, and tell them how much I love and appreciate them. Today, I will say prayer upon prayer for her and her family, as well as other young victims all over the world. Today, I will count my blessings.
Let's hope we bring her killers to justice. This little girl will stay in my thoughts for a long time.
