The Blackout

Heh, it looks like we have the strange mindset around here to actually celebrate the one year anniversary of "The Blackout of 2003". All the headlines this past weekend (aside from the Olympics) were self-congratulatory about how well we handled that crisis.

Lucky Blackout! You gets a party. I wonder if poor "SARS Outbreak of 2003" is feeling a little left out?

My favourite thing about the Blackout last year? I got to get paid for more than a week even though I was at home! (Although technically speaking, I did go in as "essential staff" for a couple of days.)

I remember that when the power failed, I was at work during a client consult, and I went to click my ballpoint pen. I clicked it, and the power went off. My client and I just looked at each other with great surprise. She said: "Quick! Click it again!" Needless to say, that no amount of pen clicks would restore the electricity. Funny how superstitious I am.
