The Optics and The Bush Twins

Sometimes people just have to accept the fact that family members may not always agree things. Let these girls go to a wedding for God's sake!

Gee, and I thought I had it bad with an extremely Roman Catholic mom. My mother, as a member of the 3rd order of Carmelite nuns*, is absolutely horrified that everyone will find out that her daughter is gay. I wonder if she thinks it'll affect her potential for sainthood?

We are in a very important, and ornately designed boardroom somewhere in Vatican City. A group of Cardinals and the Holy Father are deep in conversation.

Pope: Okay, next up.... we have a contender here for sainthood. A Carmelite from Toronto.
Cardinal #1: I think there is a complication here Father. She has a daughter whom participates in same-sex relationships.
Pope: A lesbian eh?
Cardinal #2: No, actually our investigation says here that she's technically bisexual.
Pope: Technically? What does that mean? Can't the woman make up her mind?
Cardinal #3: (interrupting) Holy Father, if we can focus on the task at hand? The Carmelite? Her pending sainthood?
Pope: Oh right. Pardon me. Maybe we should make her the patron saint of Disappointed Mothers? That would be apt.
Cardinal #4: I don't think so Father. We probably should reject her since it is not in line with our beliefs.
Pope: Oh drat. I was really looking forward to using my cool Papal seal of approval. It makes a very satisfying thud when I slam it onto documents!
Cardinal #5: Here Holy Father. You can instead approve my diplomatic mission to Hawaii. You'll notice I've requested the Papal jet.
Pope: Excellent! The jet is pretty sweet, isn't it? Approved!

The Holy Father slams the Papal Seal onto the document with great vigor.

Pope: (giggling) I really do enjoy doing that!

Well, at least that's how I perceive it in my crazy brain. No family can control all its members. That's the beauty of free will.

* In case you're wondering why a nun is allowed to have a husband and children it is because there is a special sect of this order of sisters that allows married women to join. Yeah, I was pretty shocked myself when my mom came home one day and announced her intention to join the sisterhood. I knew my mother was hardcore, but it never occurred to me that she'd ever become a nun.
